High above the East Verde River near Payson, AZ, a cowboy suggested posing with their horses on a narrow cliff, and I agreed despite the risk. After they steadied the animals, I framed the shot—but on my countdown a horse lunged, nearly pulling its rider over the 100-foot drop. The cowboys sprang forward, calmed the horses, and we reset, hearts pounding. Moments later we captured the dramatic image we’d hoped for, then shared shaky laughs, grateful that our cliff-top photo session went well and I was able to capture this unforgettable image.
