Christopher “Flore” Florentino understands the symphonic power of colors at a foundational level. With inspiration from the greats that preceded him and execution from his own brush strokes that excel beyond, Flore represents emotion boldly and subtly through every gesture and figure depicted.

Formal art school training rendered him especially interested in color theory and the optical dynamics of forward and retreating motion: how color moves the eye and creates the effect of space within the surface. As part of his evolution as an artist, he continues to put in countless hours in the studio, strengthening his technique and a fresh path to self-expression.

For several years, his Urban Cubist works have deployed poignant phrases amidst an assemblage of rambunctious monsters to create vivacious canvases, echoing the architecture of New York, his home. Increasingly, it’s been the development of his Modernist series that has yielded a mature, poetic, and classically art historical relationship with the powers of color — a series that sets the eye, mind and heart in equal, fluid motion. His obsession with Mid-Century Modern design catalyzed the Modernist, arising from a desire to match the aesthetics of sprawling Liechtensteins and lush Eames lounges.

“Born and raised in Brooklyn, the Urbans are who I am, but the Modernist is my taste. My heroes are Cy Twombly, Willem de Kooning, Joan Mitchell… I’m an art nerd, what can I say?” Flore remarks.

Since the inception of his illustrious artist journey in the city that never sleeps, Flore has taken from the streets of New York to Japan for a live Urban Cubist painting within the Nakamura Keith Haring Museum collection and Venice, Italy to prominently showcase two Modernist paintings at the Biennale. Boasting a robust list of collectors from Audemars Piguet to Beyoncé and beyond, the recognition of his cosmic oeuvre spans light years.

Headspace (and physical space) play a significant role in what pours from his paintbrush. A migration from Miami to New York City’s Soho foreshadows a shift in his aura of creation; Urban Cubism hearkens back to his Brooklyn roots, so a return to full immersion is paramount for the series to continue evolving. For the Modernist series, tributes to exalted abstract artists are now melded with remembrance of his grandmother, an artist herself that strongly assisted in fostering his appreciation for fine art in the heart of Greenwich Village.

“I strive to execute at a level that honors their influence,” Flore proudly proclaims.
