ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Christopher Martin is coming full circle with Centric, the first Houston exhibition dedicated solely to his coveted and collectible disc series. Since debuting his first discs in 2011, successive series have continued the evolution of iterations that play with rhythmic and eye-catching geometry. In addition to spotlighting new works from Vorticity, Solaris, and Vorticity Malta, the exhibition will offer a retrospective of pieces from earlier releases.
While all of his work offers unparalleled technique in his style, the discs allow for artist and client to collaborate on a personalized composition and stylistic options that reinforce their sculptural nature. The discs fit virtually every space, from a single piece hung above a fireplace to a selection of work cascading up a staircase. The options and combinations are limitless, and the results are always breathtaking and unique, much like a beautiful piece of music.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
While his technique traces back to the 14th century, Christopher Martin's approach to "Verre Églomisé" or gilded glass, is entirely modern. A self-taught artist, Christopher coaxes layers of sheer pigment and water to achieve his vision — harnessing brushes, wind, heat, and gravity. Martin describes his technique of painting in reverse on acrylic panels: "Every layer of paint has a strong influence on the one behind it as opposed to a flat covering stroke. It's often around thirty layers of paint that fuse." In the twenty years since he began painting, his works have been sought for national and international corporate and private collections.
